About Us
Maddhatter Guides and Outfitting (MGO) is a licensed waterfowl outfitter
through
Saskatchewan Environment. We are located approximately one
(1) hour and forty five (45) minute drive from
Saskatoon . Our outfitting area is approximately 3000
square miles. Ducks Unlimited, has several large projects and refuges
developed in our area. Our season is approximately six (6) weeks, from the
beginning of September to mid-October.
The business first started in 1998 with three (3) employees, willow blinds,
plywood silhouettes and a four hundred (400) square foot cabin.
Hunters were offered pick up and drop off in
Saskatoon . After experiencing several issues with
delayed luggage and hunters, the decision was made to stop offering the
travel service and use that time for spotting during the weekends. This has
proved to be very important for the success rate of the hunts and hunter
satisfaction.
The hunts offered at that time were one (1) group, four (4) hunters at a
time and hunted six (6) days/ week. Eventually, hunts went from six (6) days
to five (5) days/ week. It took approximately five (5) years to grow from
one (1) to two (2) groups/ week. Since 2004, the hunters stay in first class
lodging, which accommodates two (2) groups (twelve (12) hunters).
We normally goose hunt in the mornings and duck/ goose hunt in the
afternoons. Our camp is
primarily a goose camp where seventy five (75) percent of our hunts are for
geese. Our goose hunts are field
hunts over decoys and our afternoon duck/ goose hunts are usually in the
field, but occasionally over water. We hunt all Canada goose species
including the greater honkers, along with Snows and Specks. We hunt an
assortment of duck species, with the majority being Mallards.
We have been told by well-travelled professionals in the business that we
have one of the best waterfowl locations not only in
Saskatchewan , but all of North America .
This is attributed to a combination of excellent wetland habitat, vast
grain-fields and the south bound migratory route. We are fortunate to be
some of the first hunters to hunt the fall migrants as they head south for
the winter.
Our business to date has been maintained by MGO’s reputation with its repeat
hunters. For the upcoming 2011 season, we look forward to providing the same
level of satisfaction and service for existing and new clientele, including
prime fields selected by experienced spotters and guides and first class
accommodations and meals.
